The Singapore Institute of Arbitrators (SIArb) is pleased to announce that the annual International Entry Course is now open for registrations. Candidates who pass the Course may, subject to satisfying other relevant criteria, qualify for admission as a Member of the Singapore Institute of Arbitrators.

SYNOPSIS OF THE COURSE
The International Entry Course consists of 4 Modules conducted over two full days (21 & 22 April 2017). Each Module covers a particular segment of arbitration law and practice. Module 1 gives an overview of arbitration and introduces key concepts, rules and legislation. Module 2 covers the commencement of arbitration, and issues concerning constitution, jurisdiction and powers of the of the tribunal. Module 3 goes into the arbitration procedure, from statements to the substantive hearing. Module 4 discusses the award, and the steps that may be taken to challenge or enforce the award.

A candidate may apply to sit for only some of the Modules. Successful completion of all the course modules (with 100% attendance) and assessments will lead to qualification for membership as Member of SIArb, subject to the qualifying requirements.

  • The essential features of arbitration
  • The differences between arbitration and other forms of dispute resolution
  • The arbitration agreement
  • The different types of arbitrations, including ad hoc and institutional arbitrations
  • The laws applicable to an arbitration
  • The meaning of the “seat” of the arbitration and the lex arbitri
  • An overview of the domestic and international arbitration legislation of Singapore

Module 2 – Commencement of Arbitration and the Tribunal

  • Commencement of arbitration – applicable procedure, method and significance
  • Establishment and composition of the Tribunal – applicable procedure, number, competency, impartiality and independence

  • Challenge of the Tribunal

SILE Attendance Policy
Participants who wish to claim CPD Points are reminded that they must comply strictly with the Attendance Policy set out in the CPD Guidelines. This includes signing-in on arrival and signing-out at the conclusion of the activity in the manner required by the organiser, and not being absent from the entire activity for more than 15 minutes. Participants who do not comply with the Attendance Policy will not be able to obtain CPD Points for attending the activity. Please refer to www.sileCPDcentre.sg for more information.
 

 
REGISTRATION, REFUND & CANCELLATION POLICY
1. Acceptance or rejection of an application is at discretion of the Council of the Institute. We reserve the right to refuse to register or admit any participant, and to cancel or postpone the event.
2. Registrations received on or before the closing date are confirmed upon RECEIPT OF FULL PAYMENT.
3. The Organiser reserves the right to cancel, curtail or change the content of programmes and the names of facilitators without prior notice in the interests of improvements to the Course.
4. The Organiser is committed to staging a successful programme. However, we reserve the right to cancel or postpone the programme in which case refunds will be given, but otherwise, no refunds will be madef or cancellations or no-shows by those who registered.
5. The Organiser reserves the right to change the venue or amend any of the other details published.
